Hey All.. Hi..!
How are you..? Hope you doing great. So am I. Let me introduce myself, I am Sushil.. Sushil Kadam(James bond style. He! He!). I am staying at a small village in Konkan. A very beautiful area in Maharashtra which has got some of the finest strokes from Natures paint brush. Actually I am studying..In 1st Std., but that doesn’t matter, someone wisely said “What’s in a Standard...?” (Don’t waste your time searching for who said it.)
I have ma exams coming soon, so I am very busy these days. Ma teachers and parents expects a lot from me.( Anyways what do they do apart from this..?He! He!). Apart from exams I have to practice for ma upcoming stage show in the month of May. Yah Right! I do perform in an orchestra too. Seriously we new generation kids have so much to do na..? But still I managed to spare time to talk to you, because its very important. Though I am too busy to talk, am writing this letter to all of you. (Ssshhh... Ashatai and Sengupta Ma’am doesn’t know that I am talking to you. As they think that I am the most naughty kid on earth, they spend most of their time watching on me only..) Oh!! I forgot, Ashatai and Sengupta Ma’am are my parents cum teacher cum friends cum guardians. I do stay with them only in their boarding school.
We are near about 30 students here. We all learn in class 1st to 7th. We have got really nice teachers they teach us all subjects very nicely. And thank god we don’t need to go to any extra tuitions(I heard kids in cities spends more time in tuitions than school) We spend more time in other activities which are real fun. And of course on Play ground. Apart from Class rooms we have one music room here. Where we learn to play instruments and sing interesting songs. We have our own orchestra, my seniors play Tabala, Dholak, Harmonium etc. And we can sing several beautiful songs. My senior Manish and Sagar plays amazing Tabala, Dholak and Kongo too. Sonam & Ishika sings folk songs at their best. We have done a show once and got a Houseful event. My friend sings folk song and plays Dholak at same time great sync. And Me.. I am yet a hidden diamond in them(Actually my seniors don’t know ma potentials yet. "Ek din ye sab mera autograph mangenge.." I can bet on this).
We are achievers in sports also. Recently we have won two awards in a Cricket tournament held at Yavatamal. My senior Sagar(class 7 that Tabala and Kongo player) got two catches. We were screaming in happiness as he did it on such a big ground.(And this varun bhaiya can’t even chase the ball in our small play ground also..He!He!He!!) And these days we are learning computer. Its fun. Some times I wonder is it a machine or a Magic.. (Actually they don’t allow me to touch it, its only for ‘Big Kids’) Told you naa they don’t know ma potential yet.
So..What you say..? Our life is full of fun hah..? Its true. We are lucky that we are learning so many things together. Soon there will be a workshop in our school, where they ll teach us to make paper bags, candles, essence sticks etc. I am eager to learn it. Then there will be something which I have created at ma own.
Now you must be thinking that why I am telling you all this. Right..? These are all ordinary things which million kids in this world do. Actually I forgot to tell you our school name.. Its ‘Snehajyoti Andha Vidyalaya.’ Yah right! I am Blind.
‘Being ordinary is an extraordinary thing for us..’
But believe me it really doesn’t matters for me much. Because I can run, sing, learn, listen to music, play cricket and do so many other things. Only problem is I can’t see. Only colour I know is Black. We are all complete or partially blind kids here. But you know what, we can do every other thing that a normal friend of ours can do. We learn all school subjects. We read so many books(of course in Brail). Yah! we can’t do drawing but our music compensates this thing.
I heard, that so many kids like me stands on signal and beg in cities. Have you ever gave a rupee to a blind child on signal..? You must have given it cause I know you are all very kind at heart. But have you ever thought that those kids can be successful in their lives same as you all ..? They can achieve so many awards for their parents ..? They can read even faster than you..? That they can perform in a stage show..? If you don’t believe this then you must visit us once. Our all teachers are blind. Still our music teacher is ‘Sangeet Visharad’ and he is doing his MA(Its a higher education "mujhe abhi wo karane me time he."). Our teacher Bhandare sir can operate computer. He types letters and can mail it too. Ishika studying in class two have got award for reading fast. List is long. See it to believe it.
I believe in God. But I have never seen his any Idol(How can I..?) So, anybody like you helps us to be ordinary is God for me. For us. Yes you can be a God. When they started this school Ashatai’s age was 60yrs. Now at 68 also she and Sengupta Ma’am works 12 hours a day for us. They became our God. That god in a sky gave us a birth but these gods on earth are making us survive. Many of us have learnt a lot from them and still we are learning. They love us more than our mummy papa. Sorry to ask..But..What is your age..? more than 68..? Do you think that just giving a rupee can end your responsibility towards your younger brothers n sisters..?
No-No I am not asking you for money. Never. I just want you to think for sometime. I think sometimes you become so busy earning and achieving that you just forget us. Think.. How can you help all of us..? How can you make our life more comfortable. How and what can we learn more..? All I am asking is for few minutes from your busy schedule. We are eager to learn from you..Are you eager to teach us..? Think on it.
Chalo-Chalo.. Have to rush. Told you naa.. I am very busy yaa. Remember, next time if you light a candle during electricity cut off then just think that I don’t have that option too.
Okay then.. going for now Will catch you soon. Love you all.. Happy Holi. Have a colourful life and don’t forget to give us few colours too, as we don’t know any.
Oye.. if you want to meet me anytime you can take ma appointment from Varun Bhaiya.
Bye then..Waiting for you. Thanks for reading. And I am free in summer holidays and will love if get few friends to play with.
Love!!!
Sushil.
Its Varun here. As you can understand Sushil can’t write anything(But with ur wishes soon he will start typing) so, he narrated this letter to me and I wrote it for you.
Actually today I just wanted to wish you all for Holi but then I thought lets share this Holi with them who doesn’t know any colour. All they can see is Darkness. Aashatai Kamat and Senagupta Ma’am with few more people have given everything to bring light in these beautiful but darkened lives.
It is an amazing world here. These kids feels your heart with core happiness. We can even get motivated by them. When we neglect beautiful colours of life in silly tensions these kids shows us how to be colourful and enlighten with a complete darkness. We are very lucky to be normal.
This Holi lets learn this from Sushil that colours are made in heart. You can be colourful though you are in a bit darker part of life. Have a Happy Holi.. enjoy colours and promise to bring them in these tiny lives as well.
Thanks for reading.
And yes, Sushil has given a message that he is soon coming on Facebook & Orkut. And he knows that you are eager to be his friends.
